Adopting a rear view, this work, as with the companion Golden Boy I, has abstracted gestural marks constructing a multi-textured surface of paint on canvas. A series of blues, blacks, whites and silver create a powerful figure.
Ironically, the title ‘Golden Boy’ suggests the chosen or favourite child for whom life is enchanted. Eschewing historic references, this work should be called ‘Blue Boy’ as aesthetics demand. For FSG however, it is the act of painting that is the elan vital.
